Get Involved

Everything we have accomplished in the fight against triple-negative breast cancer over the last ten years was made possible by our devoted team of volunteers. But the truth remains that Black and Hispanic women are dying from breast cancer at a disproportionate rate. If you are moved to join us in our effort to improve outcomes for women at risk for TNBC, there’s a place for you on our team. Take a look at the below opportunities for individuals and organizations to contribute and click Get in Touch at the bottom of this page to let us know you’re interested.

The majority of our fundraising and awareness-raising work revolves around several events throughout the year leading up to our annual gala, the Pink Tie Affair every September. We need volunteers to help with distributing signs, set-up, registration, clean-up and more during this big event. (Please note that the 2020 gala will be held virtually, so we won’t need volunteers this year.)

Each May, we travel to several churches in the Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland areas during the annual Pin-A-Sister mammogram awareness campaign in partnership with ACCESS Community Health. We need volunteers to coordinate dates with churches to hold the pinning ceremonies, distribute pins and mammogram appointment cards and answer general questions after the church service. We also have opportunities for survivors to share their stories during a Sunday morning service.

Contact us today to let us know you are interested. We’ve got a job for anyone who wants to help!

Host a Fundraiser

If you’re in touch with a business, club or community organization that aligns with LFC’s mission, or maybe you’re a natural-born leader, consider hosting your own fundraiser. From holding a dinner fundraiser at a local restaurant to hosting a bake sale or a performance, the possibilities are endless! Whatever you’re passionate about, there’s a way to share some of the love with LFC.

Take a look at some of these ideas and past successful fundraisers:

  • Become an LFC Champion: Create a GiveSmart page to help us raise money for our 2020 Pink Tie Affair. Personalize it with your story and share it with everyone you know! LFC Champions who raise $500 or more will receive a special gift and recognition during this year’s event October 24, 2020. Get started here.
  • Donate your birthday: Find us on Facebook and set up a birthday fundraiser so your friends can donate to LFC in your name.
  • Donate your dinnertime: Ask a local restaurant to host a fundraiser night and donate a portion of sales to LFC.
  • Donate your talents: Are you an amazing singer? A poet? A fashion designer? Host a performance and donate a portion of ticket sales.
  • Throw a party: Get your friends together for a paint-and-sip night and collect donations. Know somebody who sells Arbonne, Avon or Tupperware? Host a shopping party and donate the proceeds.
  • Get the whole family involved: Host an old-fashioned bake sale, lemonade stand or car wash.

Kavata Swimwear

Kavata is a black-owned brand with roots planted deep in Los Angeles, CA and a sponsor of LFC. They’re on a mission to wage war on TBNC, a cancerous tumor that affects African-American and Hispanic women disportionately and results in overall lower survival rates. Kavata aims to win this war by donating 10% of our sales proceeds to Laini Fluellen Charities. This way, a portion of your purchase is destined to sponsor TBNC research and treatments while also impacting the lives of African American and Hispanic women.
